Episode 37 – Eliminating Stress… On Purpose

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) continue our discussion on how to dramatically reduce the amount of stress in your life. Specifically, we look at the power of knowing, and living out, your Purpose.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 37 - Eliminating Stress... On Purpose

In Episode 35 we explained how stress and “The Stress Response” is THE number one cause of sickness and disease as it impacts your Brain, Muscles, Heart, Digestive System, and Reproductive Hormones.

Last week, in Episode 36 we shared one way to reduce stress:

Forgiveness.

This week we look at another powerful method for reducing stress:

Having a PURPOSE!

Studies show that having a strong sense of purpose will not only reduce your stress levels, it will boost your Immune System, improve your digestion, lower your blood pressure and help balance your hormones.

In addition, if you suffer with social anxiety, low self-esteem, fear of failure, and/or neediness…

Knowing, and living, your PURPOSE will help!

Let me say it another way…

If there was a vitamin or drug that could give you the benefits that having a sense of purpose can give you, it would be a top seller!

We talk about this on this week's episode.

Speaking of this week's episode, would you be interested in...

- Hearing about individuals who discovered their purpose and significantly improved their lives?

- Discovering ways to boost your confidence and get rid of "neediness"?

- Learning HOW to discover your purpose?

All of this is covered in this week's episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast:

Episode 37: Eliminating Stress... On Purpose

Give it a listen...

On Purpose 🙂

Episode 36 – The Healing Power Of Forgiveness

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) talk about the Healing Power of Forgiveness and how it can help you significantly reduce the amount of stress in your life.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 36 - The Healing Power Of Forgiveness

Stress is THE cause of most chronic illness and disease and in last week’s episode we explained how “The Stress Response” impacted your Brain, Muscles, Heart, Digestive System, and Reproductive Hormones.

Specifically, we shared how CHRONIC stress can lead to neck pain, back pain, headaches, high blood pressure, heart arrhythmias, anxiety, depression, digestive disturbances, infertility, hot flashes, PMS and PCOS.

Stress is also strongly linked to cancer, Alzheimer’s, and diabetes… not to mention obesity.

In other words, stress can kill you!

In this week’s episode we talk about a wonderful way to reduce the amount of stress in your life.

A practice that, once implemented will have a significant, and positive, impact on you… and others.

It’s called Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is powerful... yet so underappreciated.

In fact, there are many medical studies that have proven how healthy Forgiveness is.

Yet for some reason it is seldom, if ever, talked about by doctors.

(I wonder why?)

Regardless… the Power of Forgiveness is something YOU should be aware of and practicing.

Start by giving this episode a good listen.

Learn the difference between “Shame” and “Guilt”… along with the twin forces of “Mercy” and “Grace.”

Hopefully, it will open your eyes... AND your heart 🙂

Episode 35 – Why STRESS is the cause of nearly every disease

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) continue our series on The Hormonal System by discussing the Adrenal gland and its role in The Stress Response. We explain HOW and WHY The Stress Response plays a significant role in the development of most chronic diseases.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 35 - Why STRESS is the cause of nearly every disease

What goes through your mind when someone tells you they have a “hormone problem?”

That they have some kind of Estrogen, Progesterone or Testosterone imbalance?

Or, perhaps that their level of Thyroid hormones is off?

Both are good guesses.

However, right or wrong, when you hear about ANY type of hormone imbalance, I want you to start thinking about a different hormone gland.

A gland that DIRECTLY influences both the reproductive system AND the Thyroid.

One that is most likely involved in ANY hormone imbalance in the body:

The Adrenal gland.

Actually, you don’t have “an” adrenal gland… you have two.

One sits atop your right kidney… the other your left.

Together, these two small glands have ONE main function:

To secrete hormones that help the body deal with stress.

Now, if you’re alive in the year 2020 it’s probably safe to say you’re dealing with some type of stress.

We all are.

On this episode we look at HOW the adrenal glands respond to stress.

Specifically, we talk about “The Stress Response" and what it does to your digestive system, reproductive system, cardiovascular system (heart), musculoskeletal system, and your nervous system.

We then discuss how TOO MUCH stress is often THE cause of almost every chronic disease.

Conditions such as GERD, IBS, Crohn’s disease, infertility, hot flashes, PMS, high blood pressure, neck pain, back pain, headaches, insomnia, ADHD, fibromyalgia and memory loss… ALL can be traced back to your body being “stuck” in The Stress Response mode.

Understanding The Stress Response will go a LONG WAY towards helping you understand what is going on in your body.

More importantly, it can help you begin to make changes… changes that will identify and correct the CAUSE of your health problems.

Give this episode a good listen. Take notes if necessary… and share it with your family and friends.

Episode 34 – All About The Thyroid

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) continue our series on the Hormone System by looking at the Thyroid Gland. Specifically, we look at Hypothyroidism - what it is and how to deal with it naturally, without the use of drugs or surgery.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 34 - All About The Thyroid

Weight gain?

Tired?

Brittle nails?

Hair falling out?

Always “cold”?

If you are dealing with any of these symptoms… you may have a thyroid problem.

Specifically, your body may be producing too little thyroid hormone, a condition known as Hypothyroidism.

On this week's episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast, BetyLou and I talk all about Hypothyroidism. Primarily, what causes it and what can be done to treat it…

...naturally, without the use of drugs or surgery.

We discuss nutritional supplements and herbs that seem to help as well as the Physical, Nutritional and Emotional factors that should be addressed.

We also explain the importance of getting the right “octane” when it comes to the prescriptive drug Synthroid…

...and why Hashimoto’s Disease is now the number one cause of Hypothyroidism.

Give this episode a good listen.

Take notes if necessary… and share it with your family and friends.

Episode 33 – The Key To Correcting Hormonal Imbalances

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) begin a series centered around identifying and correcting Hormonal Imbalances naturally… without the use of drugs or surgery

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 33 - The Key To Correcting Hormonal Imbalances

Ask a woman if she’s ever suffered with a hormone-related problem and she’ll probably say “Yes” as PMS, endometriosis, infertility, PCOS, hot flashes, weight gain, and Hashimoto’s are just SOME of the problems she may have encountered.

Men are just as likely to suffer with hormone-related problems although their symptoms - erectile dysfunction, infertility, low-energy, low sex drive, mood swings, depression, anxiety, headaches and loss of strength - are not as easily noticed.

Either way, there are an abundance of health issues in this country resulting from hormonal imbalances.

On this episode - the first in a series of episodes on the Hormonal System - we take a look at these imbalances and begin to discuss what can be done to prevent and overcome them.

We begin by explaining how the current medical approach for addressing hormone-related problems is often focused on the wrong issues.

This leads to misguided treatment programs which are oftentimes ineffective AND can eventually result in the development of life-threatening diseases.

So, what should you do?

We share with you the question that SHOULD be asked whenever you are dealing with a hormone-related problem. A question most medical doctors never think of.

We then go on to give you a brief overview of the “members” of the hormone system.

Specifically, we discuss the two major hormone-related organs and glands in the brain along with the four major glands in the body.

Understanding the basic functions of each of these glands will provide you with a tremendous advantage in your quest to restore hormonal balance - and better health - to your body.

Give this episode a good listen. Take notes if necessary… and share it with your family and friends.

In fact, teach what you learn to your kids as this is the type of information EVERYONE should be taught at a young age.

Episode 32 – Reversing Disease: An Interview with Ron Mitchell

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) sit down with Ron Mitchell to discuss the best kept secret in medicine: the fact that, given the right conditions, the body can heal itself. Ron shares the lifestyle habits he adopted to reverse a condition that doctors told him was incurable.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 32 - Reversing Disease: An interview with Ron Mitchell

What do you do when your doctor informs you that you have high blood pressure?

You take blood pressure medicine… for the rest of your life.

That’s the path Ron Mitchell was on.

An avid runner, Ron’s blood pressure had gotten to the point where he needed to regulate it with medicine.

And, he did.

For awhile.

Until he had an allergic reaction to the medication that landed him in the Emergency Room.

At that point, he decided that he was done with taking prescriptive drugs.

He increased his running and made some dietary changes. Specifically, he eliminated meat products from his diet and began following a plant-based diet.

That was over ten years ago and he’s never had a blood pressure problem again.

He’s also never taken another prescriptive drug of any kind.

Let me remind you of something:

Reversing high blood pressure AND not taking any prescriptive drugs is virtually unheard of in this country.

Especially for a 75 year old male.

But Ron is living proof of what the human body is capable of.

Learn more about Ron’s story and what YOU can do to live your best life by listening to this week’s episode.

Also, as mentioned in the episode, here are some individuals you can Google if you're interested in learning more about plant-based diets:

Episode 31 – The Doctor of the Future

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) explore the future of health care and the changes we expect to see. Changes that will include a greater emphasis on holistic and wellness models along with doctors who will “look” totally different than the typical doctor practicing today.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 31 - The Doctor of The Future

The doctor of the future isn’t going to look like the doctor of today.

I'm not talking about their appearance. I'm talking about how they "look" at your symptoms.

How they "look" at you.

In fact, the doctor of the future may not even be a “doctor”… but that’s a topic for another time.

For now, just know that there is a shift going on in this country. A subtle, yet powerful change in how leading-edge doctors are practicing their craft...

...AND how people are raising their expectations when it comes to their health and health care.

People are no longer satisfied with receiving a prescription drug for their complaints. They want more than “a pill for their ill.” They want to know what is CAUSING their problems.

The also want to know what they can do, using “natural” means, to CORRECT the cause.

This is a far departure from how doctors practice medicine today.

Today’s model works on an outdated premise that goes like this:

Your doctor listens to you explain your SYMPTOMS. Based on your symptoms, your doctor then run tests to come up with a DIAGNOSIS. Your diagnosis then determines your TREATMENT… most likely drugs or surgery.

SYMPTOMS —> DIAGNOSIS —> TREATMENT

The problem with this model is that it does NOTHING to address the CAUSE of your symptoms. Nothing to CORRECT the actual problem.

Fortunately, this is changing. Slowly but surely medical doctors throughout the country are turning their backs on this model and embracing a new model.

A “holistic” model based on wellness, not disease.

A model that BetyLou and I have been following for years.

A model whose time has come.

A model that works like this:

Your doctor listens to you explain your SYMPTOMS. He/she then run tests to identify the CAUSE of your symptoms. The cause is then addressed and CORRECTED through the use of natural remedies.

SYMPTOMS —> CAUSE —> CORRECTION

If you compare the "old" model with the "new" model, you'll see that how
the doctor of the future LOOKS at a person's symptoms is different.

That is, for the doctor of the future symptoms are used to help identify and correct their CAUSE.

This new approach moves the emphasis away from treating symptoms and shifts it towards treating the PATIENT and the underlying CAUSE of their symptoms.

—————

All of this is discussed on this week's episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast.

In addition to exploring WHAT the doctor of the future will look like, we also explain WHY this change is happening now and HOW you can get involved.

You don’t want to miss this episode if you have any interest in living a healthy life today… and for many years to come.

Episode 30 – Healing Herbs for Hormone Imbalances

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce) take a look into herbs that help correct hormone imbalances. This is part 2 of our Healing Herbs series.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 30 - Healing Herbs For Hormone Imbalances

Hormones are chemical messages that provide specific “instructions” to the body… instructions that dictate and determine how the body will act.

While every system of the body (nervous, digestive, immune, musculoskeletal) is impacted by hormones, there is one that stands out from the rest:

The reproductive system.

In fact, for most people the only hormones they are aware of are those associated with the male and female reproductive systems:

Estrogen
Progesterone
Testosterone

All three of these hormones are found in both men and women. However, it is the amount of each that differs.

Men have more testosterone while women have more estrogen and progesterone.

Problems occur in either sex when the balance of these hormones is off.

That’s where herbs come in.

Herbs may provide a natural solution for correcting hormone imbalances… which leads us to the topic of this week’s episode:

“Healing Herbs For Hormone Imbalances”

Specifically, we discuss herbs that may help correct estrogen, progesterone and/or testosterone deficiencies.

As a bonus, we also talk about an herb that has been demonstrated to help some men reduce an enlarged prostate.

This is a “can’t miss” episode for anyone dealing with a hormone imbalance.

Episode 28 - “No Plan B” with Caresty Carpenter

Imagine being in your early 30’s, happily married with two beautiful children and a job you love.

Further imagine that your husband, who also enjoys his work, starts feeling a tug to move back to the town he grew up in.

A town in a different state.

What would you do?

If you’re Caresty Carpenter, you pray for wisdom and guidance.

You also pray for some kind of confirmation… like jobs opening up for you and your husband in the town you’re considering moving to.

Well, God is good and Caresty and her husband Kevin did receive confirmation.

However, it wasn’t in the line of work that either of them had been in.

It was in a completely new field… a field that together they were developing a growing interest in:

Health and nutrition.

Listen to this episode to learn how Caresty and Kevin went from working as a hair stylist and a trim carpenter in Mississippi to owning a thriving business called Spartan Nutrition in Saraland, Alabama.

Their journey has not been easy… but it has been rewarding.

It also HAD to work as there was “No Plan B”.

Her story will inspire you and build your faith 🙂
