Episode 8 – Your Body Does NOT Have An Immune System…

Did you know that your body does NOT have an Immune System… It IS an Immune System!  On this episode Dr. George Burroughs and co-host, BetyLou Pierce talk about the Immune System and which supplements they feel work best to keep it healthy and strong.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 8 - Your Body Does NOT Have An Immune System…

You hear about your Immune System all the time, but did you know that your body doesn’t HAVE an Immune System?

That’s because it IS an Immune System.

You see, unlike the other systems of your body, the Immune System is not identifiable by a few specific organs.

For example, your Nervous System is made up of your brain and spinal cord, your Digestive System is made up of your stomach and intestines, and your Cardiovascular System is made up of your heart and blood vessels.

However, your Immune System doesn’t have a specific set of organs and glands assigned to it.

Why?

Because keeping the body healthy and free of "foreign invaders" is SO important that ALL of the systems of the body work together to form what is more of an Immune “Community” than it is an Immune "System".

Needless to say, it's okay to call it an Immune System.

It's also okay to do things to nourish and strengthen it.

In fact, it's highly recommended that you do!

Fortunately, there are many things you can do to nourish and strengthen your Immune System … twenty-one of which will be discussed in next week’s episode.

However, there is ONE that people are most interested in:

Supplements!

People are constantly seeking to learn which supplements seem to be best for the Immune System.

On this episode we answer that to the best of our abilities.

Enjoy!

Episode 6 – The Missing Link For Pain Relief?

If you, or someone you know, suffers with pain you’ll want to listen to this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast.

(May take a few seconds to begin playing)

Episode 6 - The Missing Link For Pain Relief?

Visit a medical doctor when you are experiencing pain and you’ll most likely receive a prescription for a pain killer, muscle relaxer and/or an anti-inflammatory.

Although these drugs may provide some relief, they won’t, unfortunately, address the underlying cause of the pain.

Visit a Chiropractor when you are experiencing pain and he/she may help you… IF the pain is being caused by a misalignment to one or more of the bones in the body.

However, what if the pain persists?

That is, what do you do if medications, visits to the Chiropractor, and sessions with a Physical Therapist don’t resolve your problem?

The answer:

Consider seeing a “soft-tissue” specialist!

On this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast, Betylou Pierce and Dr. George Burroughs sit down with the very gifted and talented soft-tissue specialist Chase Moye.

Although educated to be a licensed Massage Therapist, Chase has received hundreds of hours of additional training in specific soft tissue techniques.  This has allowed him to develop an expertise in the care of soft-tissue dysfunction.

Topics discussed on this episode:

-  the pain that led Chase to a soft-tissue specialist

  • the difference between soft-tissue and hard-tissue
  • the importance of fascia in pain relief
  • the 3-step protocol for treating people in pain
  • what to look for in a soft-tissue specialist

To contact soft-tissue specialist Chase Moye, call (251) 300-8276 or visit his website at www.HealthFixAL.com

Episode 5 – The Coronavirus: What Your Really Need To Know

On this episode we - nutritionist BetyLou Pierce and chiropractor Dr. George Burroughs - take a look at the Coronavirus and what you REALLY need to know.

Episode 5 - The Coronavirus: What You Really Need To Know

Did you know that the Coronavirus is actually the name of a family of viruses and that 20% of “common colds” are from Coronaviruses?

It’s true.

However, what makes this particular Coronavirus - “COVID-19” - a cause for concern is that, unlike other Coronaviruses, it is not spread from animals to humans… it is spread from human to human and no one has an immunity to it.

So what can you do?

Two things.

First, take precautions to avoid the Coronavirus.

Second, do things to strengthen your Immune System.

A lot of attention has, thankfully, been given to avoiding the Coronavirus. Unfortunately, not as much to strengthening the Immune System.

We want to correct that. We start by addressing WHY strengthening the Immune System is important.

Think of it this way: if you punch a bodybuilder in the shoulder, he brushes it off. If you punch a feeble older man, he crumbles.

Likewise, if a person with a strong Immune System is exposed (punched) to a virus, he/she brushes it off. If a person with a weak Immune System is exposed to a virus, he/she may get very sick.

Here’s the bottom line: the key to minimizing the impact of ANY virus is to strengthen your Immune System.

The majority of this episode focuses on this important task:

How to strengthen the Immune System - The Seven S’s

1) Sugar - why you should avoid it
2) Sleep - how much you need for optimal Immune function
3) Sunlight - Vitamin D boosts Immunity
4) Stress - what to do to manage it
5) Stomach - the incredible relationship it has with the Immune System
6) Spine - how staying “aligned” keeps you healthy
7) Supplements - which ones you should take

As always, please feel free to share this with a friend.

Episode 4 – How To Get A Good Night’s Sleep

On this episode we - nutritionist BetyLou Pierce and chiropractor Dr. George Burroughs - take a look at what it takes to get a good night’s sleep.

Episode 4 - How To Get  A Good Night’s Sleep

We begin by discussing the importance of getting a good night’s sleep:

  • how it helps the brain cleanse itself of amyloid plaque (thought to be a leading cause of Alzheimer’s disease)
  • how it helps the liver detoxify and the muscles recuperate
  • how it boosts the Immune System, allowing you to resist disease
  • how it strengthens EVERY system of the body

We then discuss the biggest obstacle to sleeping well: an inability to “turn off one’s brain”.

Most importantly, we provide holistic solutions for getting a good night’s sleep:

1) Physical Solutions - turning off the phone, computer and TV one hour before going to bed.  Minimizing the amount of “blue” light in the evenings. Testing pillows and beds for optimal comfort.

2) Emotional Solutions - before going to bed, spend time in prayer or meditation.  Write in a journal.  Process emotions from the day… let go of any negative ones.  Forgive self and others.

3) Nutritional Solutions - think twice before taking Melatonin.  Avoid heavy meals in the evening.  Take a mineral supplement after your last meal.  Consider valerian root, passion flower (herbs) and lavender (essential oil).

A few other tips revealed in this episode:

If you wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep, consider taking a spoonful of local honey before going to bed.

If you suffer with bad dreams or nightmares, examine your diet for potential food sensitivities.  For example, some people state that consuming dairy late in the evening causes them to have “bad” dreams.

Episode 3 – Overcoming Anxiety: A Holistic Approach

On this episode we - nutritionist BetyLou Pierce and chiropractor Dr. George Burroughs - take a look at a holistic approach for overcoming anxiety.

Last week, on Episode #2, we talked about the 3 causes of all disease.

On this week’s episode we apply these 3 factors to help you overcome anxiety.

As many people know, anxiety can be debilitating. From panic attacks to social anxiety, when it “hits you” the result can be terrifying.

We want to provide you with help… in three ways:

First, we discuss Physical tools such as deep breathing.  BetyLou takes you through a simple, yet powerful breathing exercise that will help you eliminate toxins and oxygenate your blood stream… both of which can help overcome anxiety.

Then, we introduce several Nutritional tips. Specific supplements and dietary recommendations are suggested.

Finally, we share talk about some powerful Emotional issues that we believe are not only tied into anxiety, but many other diseases as well.

As always, all information on this episode is for educational purposes only and is NOT meant to diagnose or treat anxiety or any other condition.  Consult your health care practitioner before making any changes.

Episode 2 – Three Causes of All Disease?

On this episode we - nutritionist BetyLou Pierce and chiropractor Dr. George Burroughs - take a look at what we believe are the 3 causes of all diseases.

We begin by tackling the current medical (allopathic) philosophy of “treating” sickness and disease with drugs and/or surgery and why it is limiting your body’s ability to truly heal.

We then discuss a broader perspective… a “holistic” approach that seeks to identify and correct the CAUSE of whatever is ailing you.

This holistic approach helps us transition smoothly into discussing what we believe are the 3 causes of all diseases.

Ultimately, we hope you learn two things from this episode:

1) When facing a health challenge, don’t just ask “What should I take?” Also ask “What is causing this?”

2) The cause of all health problems usually can be traced to a breakdown or weakness in the Physical, Nutritional, and/or Emotional factors of health.
